WALES TWP. – Wales Center Road is closed between Lambs and Sparling roads.
The Wales Center Road bridge that runs over Apply Drain is being replaced. The $847,000 project is expected to be completed by mid-July.
Kirk Weston, director of St. Clair County Road Commission, said workers began replacing the bridge about a week ago.
“It’s a complete reconstruction that started early last week,” Weston said. “That was part of our federal aid program this year.”
The project is described as a complete bridge removal and replacement with approaching roadway reconstruction. All work will be confined to the existing right-of-ways.
Local residents are encouraged to plan for delays due to construction.
Detours are already in place, taking motorists from Wales Center Road to Lambs, connecting to Goodells Road to Sparling Road and back on Wales Center Road.
The project is financed through the county’s road commission, the State of Michigan and the Federal Highway Administration.
The main contractor is Nashville Construction Company.
