BENTON TOWNSHIP – Harbor Freight Tools opened to a size-able crowd at its new location in Benton Township.
Merchandise Manager Carlos Ledesma said the soft opening in late May at its 1944 Pipestone Plaza location precludes what he hopes to see at the annual parking lot sale that began Friday and continues through today.
“Everyone was happy to see us open,” Ledesma said. “We have a good pouring of customers coming in.”
The Benton Township store is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Harbor Freight Tools has 44 workers, but Ledesma said they are always taking applications for some part-time work. Those interested can visit its website at www.harborfreightcareers.com.
Ledesma said he likes the store’s location being next to the expressway, which will help sell more tools.
Harbor Freight Tools is in the last spot in Pipestone Plaza, which used to be occupied by Kmart, which closed in 2002.
The 15,700-square-foot space is now home to home repair products ranging from hand tools to generators.
“We have quality tools with a lifetime warranty on our hand tools,” Ledesma said. “We are always making our tools better.”
Harbor Freight Tools has headquarters in Calabasas, Calif. The company has more than 500 stores across the country, including 18 in Michigan.
The company started as a small, family-owned business in 1977, according to its website.
