BENTON HARBOR — Benton Harbor Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead.
According to police, James Wesley Quinn was shot early Sunday morning outside The Jump Off at 427 N. Hull St. in Benton Harbor.
Police say a fight began outside of the Benton Harbor motorcycle club where Quinn was assaulted and shot once. Quinn was transported to Lakeland Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Dan McGinnis, acting director of public safety for Benton Harbor, confirmed Lozerik Boyd was arrested for the shooting.
Boyd’s name was initially released as a person of interest, who is also wanted by the Michigan Department of Corrections for violating his parole.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was assisted in the initial investigation by the Michigan State Police and Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
Willie Dortch, the club’s owner, said they had rented the club out to a few people for a Halloween costume party.
Dortch said he did not know anyone involved in the shooting, but that he had closed the club down prior to when the shooting occurred.
