Whirlpool to hold liquidation sale Saturday

BENTON HARBOR — Whirlpool Corp. is holding a special sale on discounted appliances for a second consecutive year.

The “Overhauled, Old & Obsolete” Appliance Liquidation Sale will be Saturday with all proceeds going to the 2016 Whirlpool employee United Way campaign.

The sale hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Center for Partner Development building at 1800 Paw Paw Ave. in Benton Harbor.

The sale, which is open to the public, will include more than 200 discounted Maytag, Amana, KitchenAid and Whirlpool brand ovens, ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and dryers. All products will be covered by a one-year warranty.

Angie Seger, senior manager for Corporate Communications, said the sale is staffed almost entirely by Whirlpool employees, who are volunteering.

“The funds raised go directly to our 2016 United Way campaign goal of $2.6 million,” Seger said. “The sale is great because there’s a huge demand for these appliances and it’s a fast way for us to put a significant dent in our fundraising efforts for the year.”

Last year, the public sale netted more than $70,000.

Seger said they expect to raise $80,000 with this sale. Seger said there will also be a few changes to this year’s sale.

“We had originally planned for the sale to last two days, but the merchandise flew out the door in the first five hours,” she said of last year’s sale. “That’s why we’re doing a one-day sale this year, and shoppers can expect the same high-quality appliances for sale at deep discounts.”

Volunteers will be equipped with iPads in order to help customers waiting in line. Whirlpool workers will keep customers up to date on which products have been sold in real time.

Seger said there were people who waited in line last year only to find out the refrigerator they wanted to buy had already been sold.

All products purchased must be picked up Saturday. For an additional $100 donation, home deliveries will be available inside a 15-mile radius. Cash and credit cards are accepted for payment. Checks will not be taken.
