BERRIEN SPRINGS — After nearly two years of work, Honor Credit Union’s new Operations Center in Berrien Springs is now open.
At 8385 Edgewood Road, the Operations Center houses the majority of HCU’s support teams, including the Member Solutions Center. The center was created to support the credit unions’ retail branches and member experience across Berrien County.
Having broken ground in August 2014, HCU began moving its “teams” and other personnel in February. The move was completed in late April.
The teams were staggered to ensure that the member experience was as seamless as possible during the move, said HCU spokeswoman Kaylee Williams.
Scott McFarland, the new Honor Credit Union CEO, said they chose to open the center in Berrien Springs because of the town’s central location in the county.
McFarland said the center is conveniently along U.S. 31 and M-139, which provides easy access to several HCU branch markets.
“Providing efficiency and value to our members was a driving force behind the decision to unify operations in Berrien Springs,” McFarland said in an email. “The positive impact that the collaboration, teamwork, and efficiencies the Operations Center has already provided to the member experience is exciting and we can’t wait for what the future holds.”
Before moving into the Operations Center, which is about 37,000 square feet, HCU used the back end of the St. Joseph branch on Lakeview Avenue and two leased space in Benton Harbor to house the back office support teams.
McFarland said the center now gives the credit union enough space to unify all back office support teams.
“The Operations Center has already provided invaluable efficiencies simply by unifying these teams into one central location,” McFarland said.
More than 100 team members work out of the center and there is enough workspace for an additional 100 employees.
To celebrate the opening, HCU is holding an open house from noon to 1 p.m. on June 16 at the Operations Center. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony amid the open house at 12:30 p.m.
