BENTON TOWNSHIP — The small building next to Signature Automotive Group in Benton Township has been many things over the years.
The building at 610 E. Napier Ave. has played host to a Domino’s Pizza, Wing Heaven, and most recently, Load A Spud.
Deep Singh knows this and said that’s the reason why he chose to open New York Fried Chicken at the traffic-heavy location.
The St. Joseph resident opened his chicken eatery on Monday after he first became involved in the property six months ago when Load A Spud shut its doors.
“I saw all these businesses leaving this spot,” Singh said at the beginning of Monday’s opening. “I wanted to give it a go.”
Singh said he decided to open a New York Fired Chicken in Benton Township after seeing the success from his business partner’s chicken restaurant in Grand Rapids. It too was a New York Fried Chicken franchise store.
Singh’s New York Fried Chicken will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. every day of the week.
He said the Benton Township eatery will serve its customers through drive thru, take out and delivery, since there is not enough space for in-house dining. Drivers will deliver food until 2 a.m. That’s when Singh said they will open the drive thru up for the remaining two hours.
For delivery, Singh said customers must order a minimum of $10 worth of food.
The eatery currently has six employees. However, Singh said they are looking for more drivers. Singh can be reached by calling New York Fried Chicken at 269-757-7771.
Customers can order chicken from individual pieces up to a 21-piece box. The menu includes chicken in the form of wings, nuggets and tenders.
Other than chicken, customers can order cheeseburgers, sandwiches, Philly steak, Italian beef and various seafood items.
